Shawna Kaulukukui is a lessee and resides in the Kailapa homestead with her 2 boys, Dylan and Jordan. She is serving her second term as President for KCA and demonstrates an active role with HWMO and Vibrant Hawaii in collaborating efforts to support homestead and neighboring communities. Her recognizing status continues to bring fire mitigation support to assist in community safety. Prior to her independent journey as a certified welder, she was employed with a drilling company in Hawai’i, which has presented in-house knowledge towards affordable water for Kailapa. With combined efforts, Shawna’s continued commitment as an executive board member illustrates her perseverance for affordable water and community resilience.

My name is Mahealani Jensen. I was born and raised on the Big Island in Captain Cook and graduated from Konawaena High School in 1997. In 2000, my father signed over his DHHL lease to me, and my home was completed in 2003.I am married to Ekolu Jensen, and we have three children: two daughters, ages 16 and 14, and a 10-year-old son. My husband works as a lineman for Hawaiian Electric, while I manage luxury properties and own a housekeeping company. Additionally, I am entering my third year as a coach at the Kawaihae Canoe Club. I am passionate about making a difference in my community and want to contribute in any way I can help.

My name is Kapono Alani. I was born and raised in Waimea and have been a full-time resident of Kailapa after moving back from Seattle Washington 4 years ago. I bring hands-on experience as a heavy equipment operator along with practical home-building and property maintenance skills. I strive to help the association manage resources, help with daily responsibilities and keep the community running smoothly. Outside of work, I enjoy fishing, spending time at the beach with my family, and volunteering.

Brandie Oye returns with a renewed commitment to Kailapa while bringing her experience from serving on the board previously as a President and Treasurer. Brandie is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools at Kapalama, she brought her talents to the family’s engineering contractor business as an office manager for George M. Oye, Inc. She is responsible for company finances and Human Resources. Brandie brings to the board a strong business background. She is committed to the Kailapa Community to furthering the community goals of a self-sufficient, reliable water supply. She has lived in Kailapa Homestead since 2002 with her husband, Alton, and their three children Makana, Sanae, and Nainoa.

My name is Jeanette Kaulukukui, I am a Lessee of Kailapa Community, Kawaihae-Hawaii. I am (1) of the 1st original 4 Lessee’s who initiated naming our Association Kailapa as well as organizing the Articles and Bylaws and applying for the 501(c) status that Kailapa holds today. I held the position as President for 3 years. My love for this area started when I was awarded a lease back in 2004. My husband and myself were a self-employed building and excavation contractors out of Hilo, as well as our children built our home in Kailapa. We quickly became very close friends with the families in this community. My husband was hired by HICDC as a weekend supervisor for the self-help program in the Kailapa homestead, Keaukaha, Panaewa, Milolii , Ouli, Mt. View, Keaau projects. (and so many more) What a wonderful program for home ownership. My goal then and continues to be, is to assist this community in growth to help our residents, keiki and kupunas to thrive.

Five years ago, I built my last surfboard. I built it with a surfboard blank that I saved for over 20 years for a special occasion. Getting a surfboard locker in Waikiki. Not long after getting the locker, I lost my board along with about 400 others in a fire.
